Law and Justice Adviser (Bougainville)

About the role

The Law and Justice Adviser will provide strategic, policy, legal and institutional development advice to the Autonomous Region of Bougainville (ARoB) and its law and justice sector. Working closely with the Bougainville Department of Justice and Legal Services, the Bougainville Law and Justice Coordinating Mechanism, and partners from the Australia‑PNG Law and Justice Partnership, the Adviser will support the Shaping Bougainville Justice (SBJ) reform agenda.

Key responsibilities

• Advise the ARoB government and Bougainville justice institutions on legal and policy reforms aligned with the SBJ program.
• Support the development, transition and strengthening of justice institutions and functions in Bougainville.
• Facilitate coordination between the ABG, GoPNG law and justice agencies, and international partners.
• Provide technical assistance to translate legislative reforms into operational services.
• Contribute to monitoring, evaluation and reporting on reform progress.

Required profile

• Relevant tertiary qualification in law, public policy, or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience working in law and justice reform, preferably in a Pacific or developing country context.
• Strong understanding of constitutional, institutional and social dimensions of justice systems.
• Excellent analytical, communication and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
