National Agriculture and Value Chain Specialist

About the role

The National Agriculture and Value Chain Specialist will provide technical leadership for the GCF/PNG/011/GFF project, supporting sustainable, biodiversity‑friendly and climate‑resilient agricultural systems in Papua New Guinea’s Eastern and Western Highlands provinces.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver technical expertise in farming systems, value‑chain assessment, market development and agribusiness planning.
• Coordinate and implement agriculture and value‑chain development activities under the supervision of the Chief Technical Advisor.
• Collaborate closely with the National Project Coordinator, FAO Agriculture, Value Chain and Livelihood Lead, project partners and service providers.
• Identify and promote gender‑sensitive, biodiversity‑friendly production systems and develop bankable business plans for small‑scale enterprises.
• Support capacity building for farming families and producer organisations to improve market access and income.

Required profile

• Proven experience in sustainable agriculture, value‑chain development and climate‑resilient production.
• Demonstrated ability to work with diverse stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs and community groups.
• Strong understanding of gender‑sensitive approaches and biodiversity conservation in agricultural landscapes.
