Nutrition in Emergency (NiE) Consultant – Port Moresby

About the role

The Nutrition in Emergencies (NiE) Consultant will work with the National Department of Health, UNICEF and partner agencies to prepare for and respond to the nutrition impacts of the El Niño‑induced drought in Papua New Guinea. Based in Port Moresby, the consultant will provide technical leadership to ensure a coordinated, evidence‑based nutrition response.

Key responsibilities

• Strengthen nutrition sector coordination, emergency preparedness and contingency planning.
• Develop and enhance nutrition surveillance, early warning systems and data collection.
• Support the preparation and implementation of the national nutrition survey.
• Build national and sub‑national capacity for prevention, detection and management of acute malnutrition in children.
• Facilitate delivery of nutrition services and supplies to affected populations.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in nutrition, public health, nutritional epidemiology, global health, or a related health science.
• Minimum eight years of professional experience in humanitarian nutrition response, emergency nutrition, national nutrition surveys, or acute malnutrition care.
• Experience in nutrition cluster/sector coordination and project development within UN or similar organizations is an asset.
