Second Engineer – Port Moresby

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Second Engineer to join our tug operations in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea. Reporting to the Master, you will ensure the vessel’s propulsion and power systems are ready and safe for daily towage missions.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and monitor vessel engines, generators and related systems during towage operations.
• Perform planned and corrective maintenance on engines, deck machinery and associated equipment.
• Execute maintenance according to the Planned Maintenance System and budget requirements.
• Diagnose faults and carry out emergency repairs.
• Ensure compliance with safety standards, ISM code, port procedures and environmental regulations.
• Participate in safety training, drills and competency development.
• Monitor and report safety performance, hazards and incidents.

Required profile

• Valid Engineer Class 3 Certificate of Competency (e.g., PNG Maritime College).
• Current SOLAS Safety of Life at Sea certification and NMSA Medical Fitness Certificate.
• Relevant maritime experience; harbour towage experience is an advantage.
• Strong problem‑solving and fault‑finding capability.
• PNG passport valid for at least six months.
