Technical Specialist – On‑site at PNG Mining Operation

About the role

Sandvik Mining is looking for a motivated Technical Specialist to be based on‑site at its customer’s operation in Konedubo (Lae), Papua New Guinea. Reporting to the Sandvik Operations Manager PNG, you will work closely with the customer’s maintenance team to improve equipment performance, reliability and availability.

Key responsibilities

• Support the customer’s maintenance team to maximise equipment availability and production performance across the fleet.
• Deliver technical knowledge transfer through hands‑on and classroom training for both Sandvik and customer personnel.
• Troubleshoot technical and operational issues on Sandvik equipment and collaborate with regional Technical Support on product improvements.
• Implement factory‑driven equipment upgrades and conduct installation audits to ensure quality and compliance.
• Coordinate parts, repairs and field service resources with the Sandvik Lae branch and logistics teams.
• Provide structured feedback to Operations, Technical Support and Product Engineering to drive continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Trade or tertiary qualification in Heavy Equipment (mandatory).
• Minimum 5 years post‑trade experience in a relevant field.
• Strong understanding of equipment operation, maintenance and performance.
• Ability to read and interpret hydraulic and electrical schematics.
• Proven experience diagnosing and adjusting electrical systems, software installation and CAN Bus control.
• Excellent report writing skills using Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Ability to work under pressure, independently and in remote, isolated environments.
• Commitment to safety and strong customer focus.
