About the role
The Deputy Team Leader – Gender & Community Expert will provide strategic leadership on gender equality, social inclusion and community engagement to ensure high‑quality delivery of the programme. Based in the Mt Hagen Area Program Office, the role supports the Team Leader in compliance, adaptive management and results‑focused implementation.
Key responsibilities
- Design and implement gender, protection and safeguarding strategies aligned with the terms of reference.
- Lead inclusive participation of women, youth, persons with disabilities, older persons and other marginalized groups.
- Coordinate with GBV partners and CSOs to harmonise community selection, outreach and protection measures.
- Facilitate community consultations, participatory assessments and ongoing dialogue with local leaders and organisations.
- Support monitoring and evaluation of gender, protection and inclusion indicators, ensuring disaggregated data collection.
- Identify and mitigate risks related to GBV, child protection or exclusion.
- Provide day‑to‑day project management support, adaptive planning and problem solving.
- Act as Team Leader in their absence, ensuring continuity of operations and staff supervision.
Required profile
- Proven experience in gender equality, social inclusion and community engagement within humanitarian or development contexts.
- Strong knowledge of protection and safeguarding principles, including GBV response.
- Ability to lead multi‑stakeholder coordination and foster partnerships with community groups and authorities.
- Excellent analytical skills for monitoring, reporting and risk assessment.
- Leadership capacity to supervise staff and manage programme components.
