About the role
The Employee Relations Advisor plays a pivotal role in fostering a positive work environment on a FIFO site in Papua New Guinea. Reporting to the Senior Advisor – Employee Relations, you will support employees, resolve concerns, and ensure compliance with PNG labour legislation and company policies.
Key responsibilities
- Act as the primary point of contact for employee relations issues, conflict resolution and employee concerns.
- Conduct fair, thorough and timely investigations into complaints and grievances.
- Partner with managers and HR leadership to manage performance, disciplinary actions and terminations.
- Interpret and enforce PNG labour laws, internal policies and any collective bargaining agreements.
- Maintain confidential records of all employee relations cases and outcomes.
- Monitor workplace climate, identify potential issues and propose improvements.
- Support organisational change initiatives and manage transitions from an employee‑engagement perspective.
- Utilise HR Management Information Systems, contribute to system enhancements and reporting.
- Develop and deliver training on conflict resolution, workplace ethics and employee relations.
- Analyse trends and metrics to recommend proactive solutions.
- Uphold health, safety and environmental standards in line with NPL policies.
Required profile
- First‑degree qualification in Industrial/Organisational Psychology, Human Resources, Business Administration or a related field.
- Minimum 3 years experience in employee relations, HR generalist or a similar role, preferably within mining, oil or gas.
- Strong knowledge of employment legislation and HR best practices.
- Proven experience in conflict resolution, investigations and compliance.
- Excellent communication, negotiation and interpersonal abilities.
- Analytical mindset with strong problem‑solving skills.
- High discretion and integrity when handling confidential information.
- Proficiency in HRIS platforms and the Microsoft Office Suite.
- Willingness to work a FIFO schedule (21 days on / 14 days off) and pass pre‑employment medical screening.
