About the role
The First Nations Engagement and Partnership Adviser will assess APLJ’s current engagement with Australian First Nations businesses, organisations and partners, identifying practical opportunities to strengthen First Nations participation in procurement, programming and partnership activities.
Key responsibilities
- Undertake a targeted review of procurement and supply‑chain data, program documentation and supplier information to establish a baseline of First Nations participation, identify barriers and assess feasible areas for increased involvement.
- Develop a prioritized, actionable pipeline of procurement and partnership opportunities, match relevant First Nations businesses and organisations to specific APLJ needs, and recommend practical changes to procurement, market‑engagement and partnership practices.
- Identify and facilitate opportunities that support the Australia‑PNG Development Partnership Plan’s objective of fostering exchanges between First Nations communities in Australia and PNG, including twinning or knowledge‑exchange initiatives relevant to law and justice.
- Collaborate closely with the APLJ team, DT Global’s First Nations Lead, procurement and corporate functions, and technical specialists to translate findings into concrete actions for the remainder of the program.
Required profile
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Law and Justice, International Development or a related field.
- In‑depth knowledge of First Nations engagement and culturally appropriate approaches.
- Demonstrated experience conducting procurement, supply‑chain, market and organisational program reviews.
- Proven experience working with government, NGOs, CSOs and technical advisers across diverse cultural contexts.
- Strong communication skills, ability to work under pressure, meet multiple deadlines and collaborate both independently and within multidisciplinary teams.
