Health Extension Officer

About the role

The Health Extension Officer will deliver essential health services and promote wellness across communities in Papua New Guinea. Working closely with local populations, health facilities and stakeholders, you will implement preventive and promotive health programs to improve public health outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct community visits to assess health status and provide health education on disease prevention and healthy lifestyles.
• Support immunisation, maternal and child health, and nutrition interventions.
• Identify and report health trends and outbreaks to authorities and assist rapid response efforts.
• Collaborate with local health facilities and organisations to ensure seamless service delivery.
• Facilitate training and capacity‑building sessions for community volunteers and health workers.
• Use data collection tools to monitor program progress and contribute to regular reporting.
• Promote inclusive health services that respect cultural diversity and are accessible to all.

Required profile

• Diploma or degree in Public Health, Rural Health or a related health discipline.
• Experience in community health outreach or extension services is preferred.
• Strong communication skills and cultural sensitivity.
• Ability to work independently and within multidisciplinary teams.
• Commitment to ethical standards and confidentiality in healthcare.
