About the role
The Monitoring and Evaluation Officer supports MEAL activities for the Sustainable Highlands Region Core Road Network Project in the Western Highlands. Reporting to the MEAL Coordinator, the role collects, verifies, manages and analyses project data, and prepares timely reports to improve project results.
Key responsibilities
- Support needs assessments covering gender equality, disability, climate, livelihoods and value chains using approved tools.
- Assist in implementing the MEAL framework, logframe, indicator tracking table and workplan, maintaining activity schedules and records.
- Prepare, translate and test data collection tools for surveys, focus groups and key informant interviews.
- Arrange field logistics for baseline, midline and endline studies, mobilise participants and collect data following approved methodologies.
- Update the indicator tracking table monthly, verify achievements against source documents and submit accurate data.
- Conduct site visits, spot checks and data verification, documenting progress, quality concerns and follow‑up actions.
- Collect community feedback, manage complaints, and ensure safeguarding concerns are escalated promptly.
Required profile
- Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, International or Community Development or related field (preferred).
- Minimum two years of monitoring, evaluation or data collection experience in a relief or development organisation.
- Fluency in English and Tok Pisin.
- Willingness to travel to very remote communities and work occasional overtime.
- Ability to work effectively in a cross‑cultural team and provide practical guidance to field staff.
Required skills
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel for data entry, cleaning, analysis and chart preparation.
- Data handling skills including checking completeness, coding, classification and secure record keeping.
- Ability to interpret monitoring results and present findings in written summaries, tables and charts.
