About the role
The United Nations Development Programme is seeking a National Peaceful Elections Specialist to support the Support to Peaceful Elections (SPE) Project in Papua New Guinea as the country prepares for its 2027 parliamentary elections. The role, based in PNG, contributes to strengthening inclusive, credible and non‑violent electoral processes.
Key responsibilities
- Monitor election preparations and emerging developments, providing analysis and briefings to UN and UNDP senior management.
- Support the organization and delivery of training and capacity‑building activities for electoral stakeholders.
- Facilitate coordination among participating UN organizations involved in the project.
- Engage with development partners and key electoral institutions, including the PNG Electoral Commission.
- Assist in managing partnerships with political party oversight bodies and other stakeholders.
- Support project governance mechanisms such as steering committee and reference group activities.
- Contribute to project monitoring, donor reporting and communication materials.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Elections Administration, Public Administration, Law, Development Studies, Peace and Conflict Studies, Security Studies or a related field.
- Minimum three years of professional experience in democratic governance, elections, institutional strengthening, human rights or international development.
- Experience in electoral assistance, capacity building and work in fragile or conflict‑affected settings is desirable.
- Previous experience with the United Nations system or in the Pacific region is an advantage.
- Fluency in English.
