About the role
The Nutrition in Emergencies (NiE) Consultant will work with the National Department of Health, UNICEF and partner organisations to prepare for and respond to the nutrition impacts of the El Niño‑induced drought in Papua New Guinea. Based in Port Moresby, the consultant will strengthen coordination, preparedness, surveillance and service delivery for nutrition emergencies.
Key responsibilities
- Support national nutrition sector coordination and emergency preparedness planning.
- Develop and enhance nutrition surveillance and early‑warning systems.
- Assist partners in building capacity to deliver nutrition services and supplies.
- Contribute to the design and implementation of the national nutrition survey.
- Strengthen sub‑national capacity for prevention, detection and management of acute malnutrition in children.
- Facilitate evidence‑based, timely and coordinated nutrition response during the drought emergency.
Required profile
- Master’s degree in nutrition, public health, nutritional epidemiology, global health, health sciences or a related field.
- Minimum eight years of professional experience in humanitarian nutrition response, emergency nutrition, national nutrition surveys, or acute malnutrition management.
- Experience working in developing‑country contexts and with UN or international agencies is an asset.
Required skills
- Nutrition surveillance and early‑warning system development.
- Emergency nutrition programme planning and implementation.
- Coordination of nutrition clusters or sector groups.
