Project Geologist

About the role

The Project Geologist will lead and support gold‑copper exploration programs across South Pacific Metals Corp’s projects, primarily in the Kainantu region of Papua New Guinea. This full‑time hybrid position combines field campaigns with office‑based analysis and reporting.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and execute field campaigns, supervise geological mapping and logging, and coordinate geophysical surveys.
• Design, manage and supervise drilling programs, including collar positioning, sample QA/QC and drill supervision.
• Collect, validate and interpret geological data, prepare geological models and technical reports.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary technical teams and contribute to health, safety, environmental and community engagement standards.

Required profile

• Strong field work capabilities in remote terrain with proven safety practices.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Geology, Earth Sciences or a related discipline.
• Experience in PNG‑based exploration of epithermal and porphyry gold‑copper systems.
• Ability to thrive in remote exploration environments and manage project schedules.

Required skills

• Core and RC logging, lithological and alteration logging.
• Geological mapping, structural interpretation and use of mapping software.
• GIS and GPS tools for data collection and analysis.
• Understanding of geophysics principles and ability to support survey design and interpretation.
• Drilling program coordination, collar positioning and sample QA/QC.
