About the role
Our client in Port Moresby is looking for an experienced, trade‑qualified Heavy Diesel Mechanical and Auto Electrical Workshop Supervisor to lead the daily operations of a busy fleet maintenance workshop. The role combines hands‑on technical work with leadership of mechanics, electricians and apprentices to keep a diverse fleet running safely and efficiently.
Key responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate workshop personnel, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.
- Plan and execute preventative and corrective maintenance for heavy trucks, forklifts, trailers and specialised equipment.
- Control maintenance costs while maintaining fleet reliability and availability.
- Develop workshop staff through coaching, training and performance management.
- Provide emergency breakdown support and ensure rapid response to critical incidents.
- Maintain accurate records using fleet maintenance software and electronic job‑card systems.
Required profile
- Recognised Trade Certificate as a Heavy Diesel Mechanic (mandatory).
- Additional qualification or proven competency in Auto Electrical Systems (highly desirable).
- Minimum 10 years supervisory or management experience in a heavy‑vehicle workshop.
- Extensive experience with heavy commercial vehicles, forklifts and related equipment.
- Excellent English communication and a valid driver’s licence (heavy vehicle licence advantageous).
- Clean employment record and willingness to relocate to Papua New Guinea.
Required skills
- Maintenance and repair of heavy trucks, prime movers, trailers, fuel tankers, HOWO and Toyota commercial vehicles.
- Operation of reach stackers, Omega equipment and various forklift brands (UtIlev, Caterpillar, Hyster).
- Expertise in diesel engines, hydraulic, air‑brake, steering, suspension, gearboxes, drivelines and electrical systems.
- Use of electronic diagnostic tools, CAN‑Bus equipment and air‑conditioning systems.
- Implementation of fleet preventative maintenance programmes.
- Proficiency with fleet maintenance software, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and the Attaché electronic job‑card system.
