Community Affairs Manager (Mining & Natural Resources)

About the role

The Community Affairs Manager will lead community engagement, stakeholder relations and social performance programmes for a growing mining and natural resources company operating in Mave, Central Province, Papua New Guinea. Reporting to senior management, the role ensures the company maintains its social licence to operate by building trusted relationships with landowners, clan leaders, local communities and government agencies.

Key responsibilities

• Build and maintain strong relationships with landowners, clan leaders, local communities, government agencies and other key stakeholders throughout the project area.
• Lead community consultation programmes, stakeholder engagement activities and awareness campaigns supporting ongoing mining operations and future developments.
• Manage land access negotiations, community agreements and dispute‑resolution processes, ensuring culturally appropriate engagement.
• Oversee the community grievance management system, ensuring complaints are recorded, investigated, resolved and reported promptly.
• Monitor community sentiment, identify emerging social risks and develop mitigation strategies to minimise operational disruptions.
• Coordinate community development programmes and local economic participation initiatives.

Required profile

• Proven experience in community affairs within mining or natural resources operations.
• Extensive exposure to customary landowner engagement in remote environments.
• Ability to work closely with operations, security, government agencies, human resources and executive management.
• Strong cultural awareness and capacity to manage stakeholder expectations and grievances.
