Community Affairs Manager (Mining & Natural Resources)

About the role

The Community Affairs Manager will lead community engagement, stakeholder relations, and social performance programmes for a mining and natural resources company operating in Mave, Central Province, Papua New Guinea. Reporting to senior management, the role ensures the company maintains its social licence to operate while supporting safe, uninterrupted mining activities.

Key responsibilities

• Build and sustain relationships with landowners, clan leaders, local communities, government agencies and other key stakeholders across the project area.
• Design and deliver community consultation programmes, stakeholder engagement activities and awareness campaigns for current and future mining projects.
• Negotiate land access, manage community agreements and lead dispute‑resolution processes with culturally appropriate approaches.
• Oversee the community grievance management system, ensuring timely recording, investigation, resolution and reporting of complaints.
• Monitor community sentiment, identify emerging social risks and develop mitigation strategies to minimise operational disruptions.
• Coordinate community development initiatives, local economic participation programmes and monitor compliance with regulatory and company commitments.

Required profile

• Significant experience in community affairs, stakeholder engagement or landowner relations within the mining sector.
• Proven track record of working in remote, culturally diverse environments and with customary landowners.
• Strong understanding of social licence concepts, regulatory requirements and best practices in community development.
• Excellent communication, negotiation and conflict‑resolution skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with operations, security, HR, government agencies and executive leadership.
