Community Affairs Manager – Mining & Natural Resources

About the role

The Community Affairs Manager will lead community engagement, stakeholder relations, landowner negotiations and social performance programmes for a mining and natural resources operation in Mave, Central Province, Papua New Guinea. Working closely with operations, security, government agencies, human resources and senior management, the role safeguards the company’s social licence to operate while supporting safe, uninterrupted mining activities.

Key responsibilities

• Build and maintain strong relationships with landowners, clan leaders, local communities, government agencies and other key stakeholders across the project area.
• Lead community consultation programmes, stakeholder engagement activities and awareness campaigns to support current operations and future project development.
• Manage land‑access negotiations, community agreements and dispute‑resolution processes, ensuring culturally appropriate engagement.
• Oversee the community grievance management system, ensuring complaints are recorded, investigated, resolved and reported promptly.
• Monitor community sentiment, identify emerging social risks and develop mitigation strategies to minimise operational disruptions.
• Coordinate community development initiatives, local economic participation programmes and compliance with community commitments and regulatory obligations.

Required profile

• Proven experience in community affairs within mining or natural‑resources environments.
• Demonstrated ability to engage customary landowners and remote communities effectively.
• Strong understanding of social licence, regulatory frameworks and stakeholder‑engagement strategies.
• Experience leading stakeholder‑engagement programmes and dispute‑resolution processes.
• Ability to work in isolated, challenging remote locations.
• Excellent communication skills and cultural sensitivity.
