Deputy Team Leader – Gender & Community Expert

About the role

The Deputy Team Leader – Gender & Community Expert will provide strategic leadership on gender equality, social inclusion and community engagement for World Vision’s programme in the Mt Hagen area. Reporting to the Team Leader, the role ensures compliance, adaptive management and high‑quality delivery of project outputs while safeguarding vulnerable groups.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement gender, protection and safeguarding strategies aligned with project TORs.
• Lead inclusive participation of women, youth, persons with disabilities, older persons and other marginalized groups.
• Coordinate community engagement processes, including consultations, participatory assessments and ongoing dialogue.
• Monitor and report on gender, protection and inclusion indicators, ensuring sex, age and disability‑disaggregated data.
• Identify and mitigate risks related to GBV, child protection or exclusion.
• Support day‑to‑day project management, adaptive planning and coordination across technical areas.
• Act as Team Leader in the absence of the Team Leader, maintaining continuity of operations.

Required profile

• Proven experience in gender equality, social inclusion or community development within humanitarian or development contexts.
• Strong understanding of safeguarding, GBV and child protection frameworks.
• Excellent liaison skills with community leaders, local authorities and civil society organisations.
• Ability to work collaboratively in multi‑disciplinary teams and manage stakeholder expectations.
