General Claims Officer

About the role

We are looking for a General Claims Officer to join the Claims team at Marsh Papua New Guinea. The role supports the efficient administration and progression of general insurance claims for Marsh clients, working with clients, insurers, loss adjusters and internal stakeholders to ensure timely and professional claim handling.

Key responsibilities

• Receive, review and register new claim notifications in line with internal procedures and service standards.
• Check claim submissions for completeness, accuracy and required supporting documentation before lodgement.
• Lodge claims with insurers and other relevant parties within required timeframes and maintain evidence of submission.
• Maintain accurate claims records, correspondence, file notes and status updates.
• Monitor diary actions and outstanding items to support timely follow‑up and progression of open claims.
• Liaise with clients, insurers, underwriters, loss adjusters, assessors, repairers, legal representatives and other service providers.
• Prepare claims summaries, bordereaux, reports and review meeting packs as required.
• Escalate complex, disputed, unusual or sensitive matters to the Head of Claims or senior colleagues.

Required profile

• Diploma or degree in Insurance, Business, Law, Finance or a related discipline (preferred).
• Prior experience in insurance, claims, broking, underwriting, customer service or administrative support.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Well‑developed organisational and time‑management abilities with the capacity to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
• High attention to detail and accuracy.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and the ability to use claims and administrative systems.
• Sound problem‑solving ability and judgement.

Required skills

• Experience in general insurance claims handling or an insurance brokerage environment.
• Familiarity with the Papua New Guinea insurance market.
• Relevant insurance or claims‑related training or qualifications.
• Proactive approach to client service and follow‑up.
