Livestock Development Officer

About the role

The Livestock Development Officer will provide dedicated technical support to all FAO projects and programmes in Papua New Guinea, focusing on One Health, animal health, and livestock production. Based in Port Moresby, the role coordinates technical guidance, monitoring and reporting across a range of initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Research, analyse and produce technical information, data, statistics and reports to support programme delivery.
• Provide technical back‑stopping and quality assurance for field projects, including antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and zoonotic disease components.
• Support formulation, implementation, monitoring and reporting of FAO activities under One Health and livestock projects.
• Coordinate with country, regional and headquarters teams to ensure compliance with corporate and donor requirements.
• Facilitate collaboration among FAO teams, government institutions, development partners and stakeholders.
• Represent FAO in technical meetings, share best practices and contribute to knowledge products.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in animal science, livestock production, veterinary medicine, epidemiology or related field.
• Minimum five years of relevant experience in animal health, infectious disease management, zoonoses, AMR or related regulatory aspects.

Required skills

• Technical research and analysis of animal health and production systems.
• Experience with data collection, statistical analysis and reporting.
• Knowledge of One Health, AMR, zoonotic disease frameworks and livestock policy.
