Mechanical Superintendent – Heavy Industry

About the role

The Mechanical Superintendent will serve as the senior mechanical authority for a major heavy‑industrial development in Papua New Guinea, overseeing design, construction, commissioning and long‑term operation of plant systems. Based between the Port Moresby office and Kido operations, the role offers high autonomy and the chance to lead multidisciplinary teams.

Key responsibilities

• Lead mechanical engineering design and assurance across the plant lifecycle, including development and review of design criteria, PFDs, P&IDs, layouts and equipment sizing.
• Drive operations, reliability and performance optimisation by analysing plant data, conducting root‑cause analysis and implementing asset criticality strategies.
• Oversee commissioning, start‑up, performance testing, ramp‑up and hand‑over activities to ensure safe and reliable plant operation.
• Manage capital expenditure and plant modification projects from definition through procurement, construction and close‑out.
• Provide visible leadership to engineers, technicians and contractors and act as the primary mechanical interface with senior engineering and business leaders.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering; professional registration (CPEng or IEPNG) highly desirable.
• At least 10 years of experience in heavy‑industry sectors such as lime, cement, mining or related process plants.
• Minimum 3 years in a senior supervisory or lead role with proven people‑leadership capability.
• Demonstrated success delivering large‑scale projects on schedule and within budget.
