Medical Officer for TB/HIV Programme

About the role

The Maternal-Child TB/HIV Project (MCTHP) seeks a Medical Officer to strengthen TB/HIV care for children and mothers in Papua New Guinea. The role is based at Port Moresby General Hospital, working primarily in the Paediatric Well‑Baby Clinic and supporting outreach to provincial health units.

Key responsibilities

• Provide clinical care to children and families affected by TB and HIV, including TB preventive treatment.
• Oversee completion of registers for contact tracing, presumptive TB, and preventive therapy.
• Deliver activity reports, data analysis and presentations to meet project standards.
• Support obstetrics & gynaecology colleagues in managing peri‑natal women with presumptive TB.
• Conduct regular outreach to NCD Basic Management Units, mentoring staff to deliver decentralized care.
• Perform fine‑needle and gastric aspirations when required and implement nutrition assessments (MUAC, weight‑for‑height).

Required profile

• Minimum 2 years experience as a qualified Medical Officer.
• Additional higher qualifications in obstetrics & gynaecology are an advantage.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work independently and within multidisciplinary teams.
