Senior Operator – Onshore Oil & Gas Production

About the role

Based in the field, the Senior Operator leads the safe, reliable and efficient operation of onshore oil and gas production facilities. This senior position requires advanced technical knowledge and extensive operational experience to supervise plant activities, make critical decisions and mentor junior staff.

Key responsibilities

• Operate production and utility systems safely, ensuring compliance with procedures, permits and isolation standards.
• Perform Control Room Operator or Permit Authority duties, making operational decisions during normal and abnormal situations.
• Supervise and mentor Operators, providing training and competency support.
• Conduct inspections, monitor process parameters and initiate corrective actions to maintain performance and safety.
• Identify and report operational risks, equipment defects and process deviations promptly.
• Maintain accurate operational records and documentation for compliance and continuous improvement.
• Participate in emergency response, incident investigations and operational audits.
• Lead or contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to optimise processes and asset efficiency.

Required profile

• Minimum ten years’ experience in process plant operations.
• Minimum two years’ experience in process plant control room operations.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with effective engagement, negotiation and influencing.
• Sound knowledge of the chemistry and physics governing process operations.
• Strong analytical, numeracy and problem‑solving abilities.
• Trade or diploma qualification in an engineering discipline, preferably with supervisory experience in a Major Accident Hazard facility.
