Site Safety Manager – Underground Mining

About the role

The Site Safety Manager is the top HSE authority on a remote underground mining operation in Goilala District, Papua New Guinea. Reporting to senior leadership, you will design, implement and enforce health, safety, environmental and emergency response systems across all site activities.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and enforce site‑wide HSE management systems for underground mining, processing plants, logistics corridors and camp facilities.
• Develop and maintain ISO 45001‑aligned HSE procedures and ensure compliance with PNG mining regulations.
• Conduct incident investigations, root‑cause analysis and corrective‑action tracking using ICAM or equivalent methods.
• Perform risk assessments and oversee critical hazard‑control programs across mining, transport and processing operations.
• Manage emergency preparedness, including mine rescue, medical response, evacuation and crisis management protocols.
• Audit contractor HSE performance, permit compliance and workforce safety metrics.
• Provide executive‑level reporting on safety performance, audit findings and risk exposure.
• Exercise authority to stop unsafe work when critical risks are identified.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in HSE leadership within underground or high‑risk mining environments.
• Proven ability to build a proactive zero‑harm safety culture.
• Strong knowledge of PNG mining regulations and international HSE standards.
• Demonstrated competence in incident investigation and emergency response management.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
