Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH) Expert

About the role

NTU International is looking for a Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH) Expert to provide technical assistance for EU‑funded programmes in Papua New Guinea and the wider Pacific region. The expert will support the design, implementation and evaluation of sustainable, climate‑resilient WASH services in rural and remote communities.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver technical assistance on water supply, sanitation and hygiene projects, including infrastructure design and service delivery.
• Conduct feasibility studies, climate‑resilience assessments and water resources management analyses.
• Prepare high‑quality reports, policy briefs and project documentation for the EU Delegation and partner institutions.
• Support capacity‑building activities for utilities, authorities and service providers.
• Monitor and evaluate WASH programmes, ensuring compliance with EU standards and local regulations.
• Facilitate coordination and dialogue with government agencies, NGOs and other stakeholders across the Pacific region.

Required profile

• University degree (post‑graduate preferred) in water engineering, civil/environmental engineering, water resources management, public health or related field.
• Minimum 6 years of professional experience in WASH programmes in developing countries, preferably in Papua New Guinea or the Pacific.
• Proven ability to work independently within multidisciplinary, multicultural teams.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, with experience drafting technical documents.
• Willingness to travel internationally and to remote locations as required.
