Welfare & Self‑Reliance Manager – Lae

About the role

The Welfare & Self‑Reliance (WSR) Department is seeking a dedicated manager to lead its efforts in Lae, Papua New Guinea. Reporting to the Regional WSR Manager, you will serve as the primary liaison for area and local church leaders, facilitating training, consultation and access to welfare resources.

Key responsibilities

• Train and support church leaders on WSR programs, including groups, education, family services, humanitarian aid and emergency response.
• Develop partnerships with government agencies, NGOs, educational institutions and community groups to create resources for members and the wider community.
• Design, implement and oversee educational initiatives such as Local Learning Centres, PathwayConnect, EnglishConnect and scholarship programs.
• Coordinate humanitarian services, assist units in emergency response planning and promote temporal preparedness.
• Collaborate with Family Services to deliver behavioural health and wellness support.
• Lead the Careers Initiative, helping young adults access purposeful education and employment opportunities.
• Recruit, train and manage a support team of full‑time staff, missionaries and volunteers.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred).
• Six to eight years of professional experience, including at least two years in a direct management role.
• Proven success working with senior leaders and diverse stakeholders.
• Strong relationship‑building, influence and communication abilities.
• Experience as a trainer, facilitator and clear communicator of complex ideas.
• Understanding of Welfare & Self‑Reliance principles and church leadership structures.
• High initiative, sound judgment, emotional maturity and executive presence.
• Strong analytical and creative problem‑solving skills.
