Nutrition in Emergency (NiE) Consultant – 12‑Month Contract

About the role

The Nutrition in Emergencies (NiE) Consultant will work with the National Department of Health, UNICEF and partner agencies to prepare for and respond to the nutrition impacts of the El Niño‑induced drought in Papua New Guinea. The role focuses on strengthening coordination, emergency preparedness, surveillance, and the delivery of nutrition services to vulnerable populations.

Key responsibilities

• Support the development of emergency nutrition preparedness and contingency plans.
• Strengthen nutrition sector coordination and early‑warning systems.
• Assist in the design and implementation of the national nutrition survey.
• Build capacity of national and sub‑national teams for detection and management of acute malnutrition.
• Facilitate evidence‑based, coordinated responses to prevent and treat acute malnutrition.
• Ensure continuity of essential nutrition services during the drought emergency.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in nutrition, public health, epidemiology, global health or a related health science.
• Minimum eight years of professional experience in humanitarian nutrition response, emergency nutrition, or national nutrition surveys in developing countries.
• Experience with care for children with acute malnutrition, maternal‑infant‑child feeding in emergencies, and micronutrient deficiency interventions.
• Experience in nutrition cluster/sector coordination within a UN or similar organization is an asset.
