Senior Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Manager

About the role

The Senior HSE Manager will lead health, safety, security and resilience across the Australia Transport Sector Support Program Phase 3 (TSSP3). Reporting to the Operations Director, you will act as a trusted adviser and culture champion, shaping safety practices for a major national transport programme.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the Health, Safety, Security and Resilience function and supervise the Security Coordinator.
• Influence decisions across offices, project sites, infrastructure activities, travel security, emergency preparedness, incident management and business continuity.
• Strengthen governance, systems and capability, fostering a culture where leaders, employees, contractors and partners speak up and act early.
• Develop and implement safety management standards, conduct risk assessments for construction activities and ensure compliance with ISO 45001.

Required profile

• At least 15 years of practical experience in a comparable HSE management role within a large development programme.
• Relevant tertiary qualifications in health, safety, environment, science or a related discipline.
• Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders, build trust across diverse teams and turn strategy into everyday behaviours.
• Experience managing significant safety incidents, reporting requirements and leading small teams.

Required skills

• In‑depth knowledge and practical application of ISO 45001.
• Expertise in conducting risk assessments for construction activities.
• Strong incident management and business continuity planning skills.
