Communications Coordinator – Media & Editorial

About the role

The Communications Coordinator – Media & Editorial will support the Pacific Labour Mobility Support Program (PLMSP) in Papua New Guinea. Based in the Port Moresby office, the role will help raise awareness of the PALM scheme, protect its reputation and deliver clear information to stakeholders in PNG and Australia.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement a communications and awareness plan for the PNG Labour Mobility Unit and the Australian High Commission.
• Draft accurate, locally relevant media materials such as releases, backgrounders, FAQs, ministerial talking points and digital/social content.
• Identify communication and reputational risks and create contextualised messages and mitigation strategies.
• Engage respectfully with the Australian High Commission, PNG Government, employers, workers, media and community groups.
• Support website content management, communications planning and capability building for the PNG Labour Mobility Unit.
• Maintain high editorial standards through drafting, proofreading and editing, ensuring cultural appropriateness.
• Leverage AI, data and technology to improve content development while preserving accuracy and integrity.

Required profile

• University qualification in journalism, media, communications or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• At least four years of experience in journalism, communications, media advisory, public relations or strategic communications.
• Demonstrated ability to produce clear, accurate written material for print, broadcast and digital platforms.
• Experience working with diverse stakeholders in a multicultural environment.
