Geotechnical Engineer – Road and Highway Infrastructure

About the role

SMEC is seeking an experienced Geotechnical Engineer to join its Road and Highway Infrastructure Project team in Papua New Guinea. The role will provide geotechnical expertise across planning, investigation, design, construction supervision, and risk management for transportation projects in challenging terrain.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct geotechnical analyses for road embankments, cut slopes, retaining structures, pavement foundations, bridges, culverts and related infrastructure.
• Review geotechnical data and advise design and construction teams.
• Prepare Geotechnical Investigation Reports, Design Reports and technical specifications.
• Monitor construction activities to ensure compliance with approved designs and specifications.
• Deliver technical presentations and reports to clients and stakeholders.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field with a focus on geotechnical engineering.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in highway design projects, preferably on MDB‑funded projects.
• Strong communication skills in English.
• Male or female applicants.
