Security Operations Officer

About the role

The Security Operations Officer will support the United Nations security framework by managing the 24/7 Security Operations Centre (SOC) and coordinating crisis and emergency response across UN duty stations. Reporting to the Security Adviser, the incumbent ensures timely incident reporting, situational awareness, and effective communication with UN agencies and partners.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and supervise the daily functions of the Security Operations Centre.
• Monitor security events, produce security updates, and support crisis management.
• Receive, verify, log, and disseminate security incident reports in line with UNDSS protocols.
• Maintain incident databases, trackers, and operational logs; prepare SITREPs and briefings.
• Ensure reliable operation of security communications systems (radio, phone, tracking, emergency links) and support testing and drills.
• Contribute to the development, review, and implementation of security SOPs, contingency plans, and response protocols.
• Deliver security awareness briefings, induction sessions, and operational drills for UN personnel.
• Mentor junior security or operations staff as needed.

Required profile

• Experience in security operations, incident management, or related fields within an international organization.
• Ability to work under pressure and coordinate with multiple UN agencies and external partners.
• Strong analytical skills for situational awareness and reporting.

Required skills

• Proficiency with security communications systems (radio, phone, tracking devices).
• Experience using incident reporting platforms such as SSIRS.
• Database management and record‑keeping for security incidents.
