Advisor - Business Development

About the role

The Advisor – Business Development will design, develop and implement governance, compliance and financial empowerment mechanisms for local small‑medium enterprises (SMEs) operating around the Porgera Gold Mine. Reporting to the Senior Advisor, you will act as the primary liaison between New Porgera Limited and community‑based businesses, ensuring they are positioned for sustainable growth beyond the mine’s life.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement good‑governance frameworks, commercial compliance obligations and business development practices for local SMEs.
• Mentor and build capacity of landowner businesses, NGOs and entrepreneurs in registration, compliance (IPA, IRC, TIN, COC, insurances) and financial management.
• Develop policies covering governance, finance, HR, asset control, safety and reporting.
• Prepare monthly/annual management accounts, bank reconciliations, tax returns, AGM and board meeting documentation.
• Set up payroll, bookkeeping, cash‑management and recruitment systems for supported businesses.
• Conduct baseline capacity assessments and deliver training workshops on governance, business planning, procurement and tax compliance.

Required profile

• Proven experience advising SMEs or community‑based enterprises, preferably in a mining or resource‑rich environment.
• Strong knowledge of Papua New Guinea regulatory bodies (IPA, IRC) and compliance requirements.
• Demonstrated ability to develop policies, conduct assessments and deliver capacity‑building workshops.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
