Communications Officer – Papua New Guinea

About the role
The Communications Officer will lead and implement ACIAR’s communication and outreach activities in Papua New Guinea, working from the Port Moresby office and collaborating closely with the Outreach Team in Canberra. The role focuses on raising awareness of ACIAR’s research‑for‑development programmes and showcasing their impact on agriculture, forestry, fisheries and rural livelihoods across the country.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the development, implementation and monitoring of ACIAR’s PNG communications and stakeholder‑engagement strategy.
- Create high‑quality communication products such as success stories, media releases, presentations, briefs, videos, photography, social‑media content and promotional materials.
- Increase awareness and understanding of ACIAR’s mission, research programmes and achievements throughout Papua New Guinea.
- Promote and disseminate communication outputs via local, regional and global channels.
- Coordinate media engagement activities, maintain media networks and prepare media kits.
- Organise and support outreach events, workshops and stakeholder meetings.
- Collaborate with the Canberra‑based Outreach Team to ensure consistent messaging and branding.
Required profile
- Experienced communications professional with a passion for international development.
- Proven ability to engage diverse stakeholders and build strong media relationships.
- Excellent storytelling skills to translate research outcomes into compelling narratives.
- Ability to work independently in Port Moresby while coordinating with teams in Canberra.
- Full‑time availability for a contract running to 30 November 2027.
