Electronic Technician

About the role

British American Tobacco Malaysia is seeking an Electronic Technician to support production equipment in Madang, Papua New Guinea. The role focuses on ensuring the reliability and safety of electrical, electronic and PLC‑controlled machinery used in manufacturing.

Key responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, repair and maintain electrical, electronic and PLC‑controlled production equipment.
• Perform preventive maintenance and inspections to reduce downtime and improve equipment reliability.
• Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns, identify root causes and implement corrective solutions.
• Install, upgrade and modify machinery, sensors, motors and electrical components.
• Collaborate with production, engineering and maintenance teams to resolve technical issues and support continuous improvement.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and ensure compliance with safety, GMP, quality and company standards.

Required profile

• Grade 12/SPM with a Trade Certificate in Electrical, Electronic or a related field (Diploma in Electrical Engineering is an advantage).
• Experience troubleshooting and maintaining electrical, electronic and PLC‑controlled production equipment.
• Ability to perform preventive and corrective maintenance independently.
• Knowledge of PLC programming, fault‑finding and industrial electrical systems.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and instrumentation drawings.
• Strong problem‑solving, communication and teamwork skills with a commitment to safety, GMP and quality standards.
