Environmental Specialist – Bridge & Highway Projects

About the role

SMEC is seeking an experienced Environmental Specialist to support the planning, design, construction and operation of major bridge and highway infrastructure projects. The role will ensure environmental compliance, manage risks and drive sustainability throughout the project lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct environmental assessments and studies for bridge and highway projects.
• Monitor environmental performance during design and construction phases.
• Perform inspections, audits and compliance monitoring.
• Investigate environmental incidents and recommend corrective actions.
• Support implementation of sustainability initiatives and risk management.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, planning or a related discipline, or equivalent professional qualification.
• Minimum five years of experience in environmental impact assessments, preferably on transport projects funded by multilateral development banks.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Open to candidates of any gender.
