Metallurgy Supervisor

About the role

The Metallurgy Supervisor will lead the day‑to‑day operations of the metallurgical laboratory at New Porgera Limited’s processing plant. Reporting to the Senior Metallurgist, the role ensures that all laboratory test work and routine plant quality checks are performed to high standards and delivered on schedule.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee daily laboratory activities, including consumables, equipment, and safety gear management.
• Supervise contractors and graduate trainees, ensuring adherence to proper work procedures.
• Organise and execute routine metallurgical tasks, plant surveys, sampling, inventory stock‑takes and test‑work programmes.
• Deliver accurate laboratory test results and timely reports.
• Support optimisation of metallurgical performance in the processing plant.
• Promote environmentally sound practices and ensure compliance with all environmental requirements.
• Uphold health and safety standards in line with NPL’s Occupational Health & Safety Policy.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Metallurgical or Chemical Engineering.
• Minimum three years of experience in a similar metallurgical or plant role with supervisory responsibilities.
• Computer literate with experience using metallurgical databases and accounting systems.
• Strong communication and organisational abilities.
• Physically fit, able to work shifts and participate in a fly‑in‑fly‑out roster.
• Self‑motivated, willing to train and share knowledge, and capable of problem‑solving.
