Operator Level 2 – Heavy Equipment (Fixed‑Term, 6 months)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Operator Level 2 to join the Maintenance team on a fixed‑term six‑month assignment at the Frieda River Project in Papua New Guinea. The role involves operating diggers, backhoes and loaders, performing daily equipment maintenance and supporting camp and site logistics.

Key responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment safely, including digger, backhoe and loader, and conduct daily pre‑start checks.
• Perform routine maintenance and repairs to ensure equipment is ready for work at all times.
• Handle and move construction materials, gravel, consumables and other logistical items across the camp and project sites.
• Prepare drill pads, conduct earthworks such as excavating, trenching, backfilling and fine grading.
• Identify geohazards, conduct site inspections and enforce safety controls during earth‑work operations.
• Lead daily toolbox safety meetings and communicate effectively with spotters and site crews.

Required profile

• High school education (Grade 10‑12); trade or machinery certificates are preferred.
• Proven experience operating diggers, backhoes and loaders in mining, drilling, construction or field operations.
• Strong knowledge of workplace safety, hazard identification and risk management.
• Physically fit for manual labour and able to work in remote field conditions on a roster.
• Effective communication and teamwork skills with site crews.
