Safeguards Coordinator – Bougainville

About the role

The Bougainville Safeguards Coordinator (BSC) will work under the direction of the Bougainville Safeguards Manager to embed environmental and social safeguards, including child protection and SEAH measures, into all transport sector activities supported by the PNG–Australia Transport Sector Support Program Phase 3 (TSSP3). This 12‑month fixed‑term, full‑time position is based in Arawa, Autonomous Region of Bougainville.

Key responsibilities

• Support implementation of the Bougainville Safeguard Plan and related activities.
• Coordinate with the Bougainville Safeguards Manager and local authorities to ensure compliance with environmental, social, and child protection standards.
• Monitor and report on safeguard performance for road maintenance and rehabilitation contracts.
• Facilitate training and capacity‑building for stakeholders on safeguard requirements.
• Assist in preparing documentation for GEDSI, LLD, CCDR, and MERLA components of the program.

Required profile

• Experience working on environmental and social safeguards in development or infrastructure projects.
• Knowledge of child protection and SEAH protocols.
• Ability to work collaboratively with government agencies, NGOs, and local communities.
• Strong analytical and reporting skills.
