Security Operations Officer

About the role

The Security Operations Officer will support the United Nations Security Management System by managing the 24/7 Security Operations Centre (SOC). Reporting to the Security Adviser, the incumbent will coordinate crisis response, incident reporting and maintain situational awareness across UN duty stations.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and monitor the SOC on a daily basis, ensuring continuous security coverage.
• Receive, verify, log and disseminate security incident reports in line with UNDSS protocols.
• Maintain and update security databases, incident trackers and operational logs, and prepare SITREPs and incident summaries.
• Support emergency response, crisis management and coordination with field security personnel.
• Ensure effective operation of security communications systems, including radio, phone and tracking devices, and conduct regular testing and drills.
• Contribute to the development, review and implementation of security SOPs, contingency plans and response protocols.
• Deliver security awareness briefings, induction sessions and operational drills for UN staff, and mentor junior security personnel as needed.

Required profile

• Experience in security operations, incident management or related fields within an international organization.
• Strong understanding of crisis and emergency response procedures.
• Ability to work under pressure and coordinate with multiple UN agencies and partners.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Required skills

• Proficiency with the SSIRS incident reporting platform.
• Experience operating security communications systems such as radio, telephone and tracking devices.
