Technical Specialist – PNG

About the role

Sandvik Mining is looking for a motivated Technical Specialist to be based on‑site at our customer’s operation in PNG. Reporting to the Sandvik Operations Manager PNG, you will act as the primary Sandvik representative, supporting equipment performance, reliability and integrity while building strong customer relationships.

Key responsibilities

• Support the customer’s maintenance team to maximise equipment availability, reliability and production performance.
• Deliver technical knowledge transfer through hands‑on and classroom training for both Sandvik and customer personnel.
• Troubleshoot technical and operational issues, collaborating with regional Technical Support to implement product improvements.
• Coordinate parts, technical support, CSC repairs and field service resources to meet maintenance requirements.
• Conduct installation audits, ensure compliance and provide structured feedback to Operations, Technical Support and Product Engineering teams.

Required profile

• Trade or tertiary qualification in Heavy Equipment (mandatory).
• Minimum 5 years post‑trade experience in a relevant field.
• Strong understanding of equipment operation, maintenance and performance.
• Ability to read and interpret hydraulic and electrical schematics.
• Experience working in remote or isolated environments with a strong safety mindset.

Required skills

• Interpretation of hydraulic and electrical schematics.
• Diagnosing and adjusting electrical systems.
• Software installation and CAN Bus control systems.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and report writing.
