WASH Specialist – UN Volunteer

About the role

The United Nations Volunteer will join UNICEF Papua New Guinea’s WASH team to strengthen national and sub‑national water, sanitation and hygiene systems. Reporting to the Chief of WASH, the specialist will support evidence‑based decision‑making, resource mobilisation and sustainable service delivery aligned with SDG 6.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in WASH sector coordination, planning, monitoring and policy implementation at national and sub‑national levels.
• Contribute to studies, assessments, data analysis and knowledge‑management products to inform strategic decisions.
• Enhance WASH information systems, dashboards and reporting mechanisms.
• Support public‑finance analysis, budget tracking, investment case development and advocacy for increased WASH funding.
• Help prepare donor proposals, fundraising materials and partnership documentation.
• Monitor programme results, capture lessons learned and contribute to donor and management reporting.
• Provide support for emergency preparedness, resilience‑building and WASH response activities as needed.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in a relevant engineering, public‑health or development field (or equivalent experience).
• Minimum five years of professional experience in WASH programmes, systems strengthening, sector coordination, M&E, public finance or resource mobilisation.
• Proven experience in donor proposal development, reporting and stakeholder engagement.
• Strong analytical, communication and knowledge‑management abilities.
• Fluent English.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Experience with data analysis tools.
