Community Affairs Manager (Mining & Natural Resources)

About the role

The Community Affairs Manager will lead community engagement, stakeholder relations, and social performance programmes for a mining and natural resources company operating in remote Papua New Guinea. Based in Mave, Central Province, the role ensures the company maintains its social licence to operate while supporting safe, uninterrupted mining activities.

Key responsibilities

• Build and maintain strong relationships with landowners, clan leaders, local communities, government agencies and other key stakeholders.
• Lead community consultation programmes, stakeholder engagement activities and awareness campaigns.
• Negotiate land access, manage community agreements and resolve disputes with cultural sensitivity.
• Oversee the community grievance management system, ensuring timely recording, investigation and resolution of complaints.
• Monitor community sentiment, identify emerging social risks and develop mitigation strategies.
• Coordinate community development initiatives, local economic participation programmes and monitor compliance with commitments and regulations.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in community affairs, stakeholder engagement or social performance within mining or natural resources projects.
• Proven ability to work in isolated, remote environments and engage customary landowners respectfully.
• Strong understanding of regulatory obligations, community agreements and dispute resolution processes.
• Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills with diverse stakeholder groups.
