Community Affairs Manager (Mining & Natural Resources)

About the role

The Community Affairs Manager will lead community engagement and stakeholder relations for a growing mining and natural resources company operating in Mave, Central Province, Papua New Guinea. Reporting to senior management, the role ensures the social licence to operate is maintained through effective communication with landowners, clan leaders, local communities, government agencies and other key partners.

Key responsibilities

• Build and sustain strong relationships with landowners, clan leaders, community members and government stakeholders across the project area.
• Design and deliver community consultation programs, awareness campaigns and stakeholder engagement activities to support current and future mining operations.
• Negotiate land access, manage community agreements and lead dispute‑resolution processes with cultural sensitivity.
• Oversee the community grievance management system, ensuring timely recording, investigation and reporting of complaints.
• Monitor community sentiment, identify emerging social risks and develop mitigation strategies to minimise operational disruptions.
• Coordinate community development initiatives, local economic participation programmes and monitor compliance with regulatory and company commitments.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in community affairs, stakeholder engagement or landowner relations within the mining sector.
• Proven ability to work in remote, culturally diverse environments and to engage respectfully with customary landowners.
• Strong analytical skills to assess social risks and develop mitigation plans.
• Excellent communication and negotiation abilities.
