Electrical Technician (Underground)

About the role

K92 Mining Limited is seeking an Electrical Technician to implement and maintain the complete power supply and distribution system for its underground gold mine and exploration sites in Kainantu, Papua New Guinea. The role includes training junior electricians and ensuring all electrical equipment operates safely and reliably.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect, isolate, and repair electrical malfunctions using hand and power tools.
• Diagnose electrical defects or hazards on systems, appliances, and machinery and perform timely adjustments.
• Maintain operational alarms and emergency electrical systems.
• Conduct regular electrical testing, tagging, and apply/remove out‑of‑service tags.
• Prepare sketches and layout plans for wiring and equipment placement, ensuring safety compliance.
• Direct and train subordinates in installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems.
• Respond to routine and emergency repair calls both underground and on the surface.
• Perform physically demanding tasks such as digging ditches, moving, and lifting heavy objects.
• Ensure safe work standards in line with mine safety regulations and company policies.

Required profile

• Ability to work long, irregular hours and be on call for emergencies.
• Competent in lifting and safe operation of workshop equipment.
• Proficient at reading and interpreting technical drawings and manuals.
• Experience diagnosing equipment problems using manuals and technical references.
• Capability to plan and execute welding jobs and equipment alignments.
• Ability to conduct dimensional checks on crusher bushes, shafts, and bearing clearances.
• Familiarity with isolation procedures for routine tasks to major shutdowns.
