Safety Officer – Geotechnical Projects

About the role

Trevi Group is looking for an experienced Safety Officer to manage health, safety and environmental (HSE) protocols for high‑risk geotechnical and construction works on the Lihir Project in Papua New Guinea. The role involves initial training in the Philippines followed by deployment to Lihir Island.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct Job Safety Analyses (JSA) and Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRAC) for heavy equipment, drilling rigs, cranes and deep excavations.
• Lead daily toolbox talks, inspect heavy machinery, enforce exclusion zones and monitor high‑risk activities such as piling rigs, crane lifts and confined‑space work.
• Perform regular HSE inspections, safety audits and ensure compliance with local regulations and international standards (OSHA, ISO 45001, ISO 14001).
• Issue citations or stop‑work orders for unsafe conditions and lead root‑cause investigations of incidents.
• Prepare KPI and EHS reports for the Project Manager and corporate headquarters.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in civil, mining or mechanical engineering, or Occupational Health and Safety.
• 3‑5 years of engineering or heavy‑construction safety experience, including at least 2 years in a safety supervision role.
• Valid international safety credentials such as NEBOSH IGC, OSHA 30‑Hour Construction or equivalent.
• Willingness to travel and work on long‑term international field assignments.

Required skills

• Job Safety Analyses (JSA) and Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRAC).
• Heavy equipment safety (piling rigs, cranes, drilling rigs).
• Knowledge of ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety and ISO 14001 Environmental Management standards.
• NEBOSH International General Certificate or OSHA 30‑Hour Construction certification.
