Tug Master – Port Moresby

About the role

Svitzer is seeking experienced Tug Masters to join its operations in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea. You will lead a tug crew in a hands‑on environment, ensuring safe and reliable towage services for ports across the region.

Key responsibilities

• Take command of the tug and lead a capable, safety‑focused crew.
• Ensure the vessel is operationally ready, including stores, crew attendance and daily checks.
• Maintain compliance with safety procedures and maritime regulations.
• Support crew performance and development, escalating issues when required.
• Assist with vessel maintenance and keep operational records accurate and up to date.
• Lead onboard safety through inductions, drills and ongoing training.
• Share knowledge and help build capability across the team.

Required profile

• Valid Master Class 3 Certificate of Competency from an approved regional maritime training institution (e.g., PNG Maritime College).
• Current SOLAS certification (Safety of Life at Sea).
• Valid GMDSS radio operator certificate.
• Current NMSA Medical Fitness Certificate applicable to the Certificate of Competency.
• Relevant maritime industry experience; harbour towage experience is an advantage.
• PNG passport valid for more than six months.

Required skills

• Knowledge of SOLAS and GMDSS regulations.
• Proficiency in tug operation and maritime navigation.
