About the role
The Climate Change Specialist will lead the design, coordination and monitoring of climate adaptation and mitigation activities to strengthen resilience of project communities. Based in the Mt Hagen Area Program Office, you will work closely with staff, partners and local authorities to integrate climate‑smart solutions across livelihoods.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct climate and disaster‑risk assessments and develop context‑specific adaptation strategies.
- Design, implement and monitor climate‑smart agriculture, natural resource management and ecosystem‑based adaptation activities.
- Provide technical inputs to workplans, M&E frameworks and community‑level implementation plans.
- Deliver training and awareness‑raising programmes on climate‑smart practices for staff, women’s groups, cooperatives and community organisations.
- Ensure gender‑responsive and inclusive climate actions and advise on emerging climate risks and donor compliance.
- Prepare high‑quality technical and financial reports for donors and internal management.
- Maintain regular communication with ADB, national and provincial authorities, CSO partners and other relevant actors.
Required profile
- Relevant academic background in climate change, environmental science, agriculture or related field.
- Proven experience in climate adaptation, mitigation or disaster‑risk reduction in developing‑country contexts.
- Strong understanding of gender‑responsive and inclusive approaches.
- Excellent communication and facilitation skills for community engagement.
