International Climate Policy Consultant (6‑month remote role)

About the role
UNICEF Papua New Guinea, in partnership with KOICA, is seeking an International Climate Policy Consultant to support the Climate Action for the Last Mile programme. The consultant will work remotely for six months, with travel to Port Moresby as needed, providing technical expertise to strengthen national climate policy and implementation.
Key responsibilities
- Assist the Programme Manager in applying global climate change frameworks to PNG’s national policies.
- Provide capacity‑building support to the Climate Change and Development Authority and relevant government sectors.
- Offer technical guidance for the development and implementation of the National Adaptation Plan (NAP) and Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC).
- Integrate youth perspectives into climate policy processes.
- Facilitate knowledge exchange on the Paris Agreement, Global Goal on Adaptation, and UNFCCC procedures.
Required profile
- Master’s degree in climate change, environmental policy, international development or a related field.
- At least ten years of professional experience in climate change adaptation, climate policy or sustainable development.
- Extensive knowledge of international climate policy frameworks and UNFCCC processes.
- Demonstrated experience supporting NAPs and NDCs.
