About the role
The Senior Marine Manager will lead the implementation of all marine projects and grants across Papua New Guinea, driving community‑led marine spatial planning, small‑scale fisheries management and shark‑ray protection. The role also heads the Solwara Bilong Yumi Project funded by the Bezos Earth Fund, working closely with national agencies to expand effective marine management in PNG’s Exclusive Economic Zone.
Key responsibilities
- Provide strategic coordination, technical oversight and overall management of PNG marine projects, ensuring high‑quality delivery and alignment with 30x30 targets.
- Lead the Solwara Bilong Yumi Project, engaging the National Oceans Office, CEPA, NFA and other partners to establish legally designated in‑shore and offshore marine spatial plans.
- Develop, monitor and report on project workplans, indicators and budgets, maintaining compliance with donor and WCS policies.
- Supervise field team leads in New Ireland, Manus and West New Britain, as well as the Sharks and Rays Advisor and sub‑grantees, ensuring timely and effective implementation.
- Facilitate capacity‑building for coastal communities and partners, and contribute to proposal development and marine strategic planning.
Required profile
- Senior‑level professional with extensive experience in marine conservation, spatial planning and community‑based management.
- Proven track record of managing large, multi‑partner projects and donor‑funded initiatives in the Pacific region.
- Strong ability to travel regularly (20‑25%) between PNG offices, field sites and occasional overseas locations.
