Associate Director – Institutional Non-Financial Risk (PNG)

About the role

ANZ is seeking an Associate Director to lead Institutional Non‑Financial Risk in Papua New Guinea. The role will act as a trusted advisor to business leaders across Markets, Transaction Banking, Corporate Finance and Coverage, ensuring risks are identified, assessed and managed within the bank’s risk appetite.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic advice on non‑financial risk to PNG business leaders, supporting sustainable growth.
• Challenge and oversee the country risk profile, key risk themes, control effectiveness and risk in change across multiple business lines.
• Build strong relationships with business leadership, second line of defence and control partners to align risk management outcomes.
• Lead adherence to the non‑financial risk framework, including governance forums, reporting, escalation and decision‑making processes.
• Identify, assess, monitor and report material non‑financial risks with clear ownership and timely escalation.
• Drive improvements in controls, tools, data and processes to enhance risk management maturity.
• Support a regulator‑ready environment through robust governance, documentation and issue management.
• Proactively translate emerging PNG regulatory requirements into practical actions and embed them into business processes.

Required profile

• Significant experience in non‑financial risk management within a banking or financial services environment.
• Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and provide constructive challenge.
• Strong understanding of PNG regulatory landscape and ability to embed regulatory changes.
• Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills across diverse teams.
